Police Department

Under the direction of the Commissioners and the Town Manager, Chief Smith and the staff of seven, address the public safety of town property, residents and visitors.

We practice community policing daily as we provide law enforcement services to the residents who call this community home. Operationally, we conduct ourselves based upon the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship and caring. Our approach is to develop community partnerships as we address safety and security concerns.

The quality of life for our residents and visitors is a primary concern of the Town and all its employees. Whether you are a resident or visitor, we strive to provide the highest quality law enforcement services with integrity and pride.

At all times, and within jurisdictional limits, the SMPD is charged to prevent crime, preserve the peace, protect life and property, detect and arrest violators of the law, and enforce the laws of the United States, State of Maryland, and local ordinances.
